Game Design 

With the flexibility of our program’s infrastructure, you can design your program in a way that members can earn their rewards within a full quarter or a full year. 

QuarterlyAnnualGamesA Program Year is a 12-month period that usually aligns with the calendar year. This period is usually aligned with your benefit year and can frame rewarding parameters (i.e. complete your HRA by the end of the program year). 

A Game can either be a 12-month period or quarterly increments. Our most engaging programs are on a quarterly cadence to ensure a fresh start for all members. A quarterly model also gives your new hires the opportunity to jump into a new game.

For some clients, Action Rewards are the go-to for earning incentives. We’ll work with you to understand your program goals and help you select the relevant actions to help you achieve those goals. It's important to note that relying solely on action rewards can lead to a lack of regular engagement, which is crucial for fostering behavior change. Personify Health supports two types of actions:  

  • Lifestyle-based rewards that encompass a variety of options, including customizable rewards from third-party vendors, joining a Company Challenge, tracking 10 days of sleep per month, and more. 

  • Outcomes-based rewards, which are tied to a member's current health status and typically triggered by completing a biometric screening, health risk assessment, or other preventative care visit.  

Our most engaging, fun, and impactful incentive design where you can choose to offer an Annual Game or a Quarterly Game consisting of 4 levels. As members engage with the platform, they can earn points, and they move up in levels. This model provides a unique wellbeing journey for everyone, encouraging members to:  

  • Set their goals on their own terms 

  • Engage with the platform daily as part of the behavior change model 

  • Become more aware, develop healthy habits, and maintain a healthier lifestyle 

This game design offers the best combination for engagement and outcomes.

In addition to taking advantage of the Points & Levels design, many of our best performing programs also encompass a few Action Rewards that are “big ticket” items (like completing a biometric screening or preventative care visit). Those big-ticket items can also be tied to a member getting their premium discount, while the points and levels have rewards that are tied to Rewards Cash. 

 

Pro Tip

Consider your company goals and what is important for you and your members. Then, review these options with your Client Success Manager to see if another game design model would be better suited for your members' interests and your company’s goals.

 

Globally relevant & localized rewards 

Regionally relevant rewards have never been easier. With segmentation, globally applicable options, and an international rewards mall and distribution centers, we provide localized rewards that hit home.  

Use reward segments to tailor incentive availability, amount, earning frequency, and even what features and programs are promoted to whom. 

Pro Tip

Ask your Personify Health team about Rewards Segments and how you can use it to make certain Products and Programs pages available to key audiences. Within your eligibility file, we offer a value called Reward Segment, which allows you to segment rewards in terms of:

  • availability to the population,
  • amount of incentive reward cap,
  • frequency of how rewards are earned.

 

Extrinsic & intrinsic motivation 

Rewards and motivators as unique as your population and what drives them. Strike the perfect balance between extrinsic and intrinsic rewards to motivate your members. Why not blend gamification with tangible rewards to create a compelling incentive structure that drives continuous engagement and behavior change?  

Rewards_Cash_phoneExtrinsic rewards can include on-platform and off-platform rewards, ranging from Rewards Cash, gift cards, merchandise, charitable donations, HSA/HRA deposits, and paycheck stipends. We offer two types of extrinsic incentive offerings: 

  • On-Platform Incentives allow for instant gratification because members can immediately and seamlessly redeem their rewards within the game.  
  • Off-Platform incentives restrict the member from instantly redeeming their reward when they complete an action. Off-platform rewarding is facilitated by the client through various ways (paycheck, premium credit, HAS, or gift cards).

Intrinsic rewards allow you to elicit excitement and motivate members with Friends & Family, Virtual Trophies, Shoutouts, Leaderboards, and Challenges. These types of rewards can also include motivation that stems from internal rewards or doing something simply for the pleasure of it (e.g., I went golfing because it is fun).

Additionally, we offer platform rewards, such as a visual progress bar on the home page, personal stats, trophy case, or in-app nudges and cues. 

 

Pro Tip

Discuss past program experiences as well as our best practices with your Personify Health team to determine the rewards mix that works best for your population. Things to consider:

  • Intrinsic and Extrinsic Rewards: These types of rewards are both valuable and equally important to have in your program design.
  • Understand the population: Reward your members based on what motivates them.
  • Slow & Steady: Offer incremental & frequent rewards for participation, progress, and completion. Choice: When possible, offer choice to make the reward feel personal.

Pro Tip

Access your Reporting Dashboards and review your progress. The Reporting Dashboards are available in the Client Admin Portal, located underneath your profile picture after you've been provisioned with admin rights. 

  1. Click on the Admin Portal.
  2. Within the Admin Portal, click "Reporting & Analytics" in the left-hand navigation menu or directly to Sponsor Performance.
